Local business throwing holiday celebration for dozens of girls
Ganson’s, Illinois Central School Bus partners with Girl Scouts for afternoon of activity
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Up to 100 girls throughout the Quad-Cities will experience a holiday
celebration this Saturday, Dec. 10, thanks to the generosity of Ganson’s Neighborhood Bakery &
Café, Illinois Central School Bus, and Ganson’s loyal, compassionate customers who donated funds and toys
in effort to make this party a reality.
Girls from Rock Island Academy and the MLK Center in Rock Island, Madison and Lincoln
elementaries in Davenport, and Frances Willard and Ericsson elementaries in Moline will board
busses and travel to Ganson’s for a free event packed with activities.
Santa, Mrs. Claus and their favorite elf, Jadette, will be there, handing out goody bags. Santa and
Mrs. Claus will take the girls on a hayrack ride along the beautiful winter path of Saukie Golf
Course.
Other activities will include face painting, cookie decorating, stocking making, hayrack rides,
cookies and cocoa, caroling and pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
Before the girls leave the party, Santa will give each girl a special gift chose especially for them!
“We are incredibly grateful to Ganson’s for their generosity in hosting this celebration, and for
Illinios Central Bus’s donation to ensure girls can get there,” said Missy Sweeney, outreach
manager for the Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois. “Partnerships like this allow us
to provide wonderful experiences for all of our Girl Scouts.”
The Girl Scout Outreach program provides a Girl Scout experience to more than 423 girls in the
Quad-Cities, through targeted schools and community centers where no traditional troops form.
The initiative is supported through grants and the generosity of donors who believe Girl Scouts is
for all girls, no matter the income level of her family.
The celebration is planned for 3:30-6:30 p.m. Saturday at Ganson’s, 3055 38th St., Rock Island.
Media is more than welcome to attend.
